My Story

I first got involved with Young Life in my mid 20’s. I had just moved to Austin from New York, and my best friend’s sister had started Young Life at Lake Travis High School. Both she and my best friend were leaders and convinced me to be a leader there as well. I changed jobs and my husband and I moved out to Bee Cave from downtown so that I could do that. I was a leader for 4 years for a group of girls starting their freshman year. It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life, and God moved in ways I could not have imagined.

Taking the girls to Crooked Creek in the summer was beyond anything I had ever experienced, and seeing Jesus move in them (and me) was one of the greatest blessings of my life. We still stay in touch to this day!

My own kids got involved starting in middle school, and I am so thankful for the impact the leaders have had on them - from weekly bible studies to club to showing up at their events. My oldest, Chloe, is a senior, and her leader, Kailey, graduated from college and moved to Houston, but they still stay in touch. Kailey even surprised them a few weeks ago at club, and attended the TX-OU game with us.

Seeing how these leaders can make such a positive, Christ-filled lasting impact on middle school and high school students and the sacrifices they make to show up every week to do that is the reason we give. We are so thankful to be a part, even in a small way, of what God is doing through Young Life at Lake Travis!
